Clay County Woman Charged In Alleged Counterfeit/Forgery Scheme

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– A Clay county woman is in custody, charged with stealing and forging checks in northwest Iowa.

Two weeks ago the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from a Corydon woman that someone had forged some of her personal checks. An investigation resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Katherine Beed of Spencer. Beed has been charged with taking the checks in Sioux Rapids, forging the victim’s name, and cashing the checks in Spirit Lake and Sioux Rapids.

Beed has been charged with one count of forgery, a class “D” felony. She was released on her own recognizance.

The Wayne County, Iowa Sheriff’s Office assisted local authorities in the investigation.
