Well Known Banker With Ties To Lakes Area Passes Away

(Des Moines)– A wellknown banker with strong ties to the Iowa Great Lakes area has passed away.

William Brenton of Brenton Banks passed away Tuesday in Des Moines of a respiratory ailment. He was 78.

Brenton started working with Brenton Banks after graduating from the University of Iowa in 1949. He held a variety of positions with Brenton Banks, including President and chairman of the board.

Brenton was a founder of the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and had a summer home in the Iowa Great Lakes.

Brenton was also a pilot and avid fisherman.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Central Presbyterian Church in Des Moines.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Des Moines Art Center, Drake University, Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum or the Lakes Art Center.
