(Hull)– Two northwest Iowa teenagers accused of lying to cover up their own alleged robbery of a Hull convenience store are scheduled to appear in juvenile court Monday.
Derek Kraayenbrink and Nick Lockhorst, both 16 years-old, have been charged with theft, carrying a dangerous weapon and false report to public safety.
Authorities found the teens with gunshot wounds to their left shoulders at the store on January 23rd. They were treated at local hospitals.
Authorities allege the teens wounds were self-inflicted.
Kraayenbrink, who worked at the store, told authorities a robber shot him and fled with all the money in the register.
But by the next day, investigators believed the pair had planned the robbery and were going to blame someone else.
The two were also charged with accessory after the fact.
They’re being held at the Youth Emergency Services Center in Cherokee.
