(Spirit Lake)– Power outages are occuring this (Mon.) morning in portions of northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota.
Dick Morrieum is a local spokesman for Alliant Energy. He says freezing drizzle that fell last night has coated transmission lines. Morrieum says strong winds are causing the lines to slap together, resulting in outages. He says the problems will continue until the wind subsides. The ice isn’t going to melt as temperatures are expected to remain below freezing.
Similar problems are being reported by Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative.
Most of Spirit Lake was without power for about 40 minutes starting at about 6:00 a.m.
