Rural Sioux Rapids Man Sentenced

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– A rural Sioux Rapids man convicted on charges of indecent conduct with a child and lascivious acts with a minor has been sentenced in Clay County District Court in Spencer.

40-year-old Jeffrey Somers was sentenced Monday to 50 days on each of three counts of lascivious acts with a minor and two years probation for the indecent contact with a child charge.

Somers still faces a third degree sexual abuse charge that was severed by the judge. He faces similar felony charges in South Dakota.

The incidents occurred in the spring and summer of 2001 involving three girls from South Dakota. Somers operated a horse riding camp on his farmstead near Sioux Rapids in which the girls were enrolled.
