Firefighters Injured While Battling House Fire In Sioux Rapids

November 23, 2014

(Sioux Rapids)– A weekend fire and explosion destroyed a house in Sioux Rapids.

The Sioux Rapids fire department was called to the Terry and Sue Knight residence at 114 Lake Street in Sioux Rapids around 1:50 a.m. Sunday. The front of the home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.

An explosion occured in the house at about 2:12 a.m., causing the roof of the front porch to collapse on top of two firemen. A third was blown back from the house. All three were taken to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake where they were treated and released.

The Knight family was treated for smoke inhalation.

It’s believed the explosion was caused by an oxygen tank in the home. A cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
