(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake Police Department will be recognized next month for its participation in Iowa highway traffic initiatives during 2002.
The program is made possible by the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Officials credit the initiative for keeping the fatality rate on the state’s roads as low as it’s been since World War Two, while seatbelt usage increased to an all-time high of 82 percent.
Members of the Spirit Lake Police Department will be recognized in a ceremony Wednesday, April 2nd at the Hotel in Spencer.
