Highway 60 To Be Topic Of April 8th Meeting In Sibley

November 23, 2014

(Sibley)– The highway 60 bypass of Sibley will be the topic of a hearing the Iowa Department of Transportation will hold next week.

Dakun Schultz of the D-O-T’s regional office in Sioux City says the project will connect the highway 60 improvements south of Sibley and to the north…going to the Minnesota border.

Schultz says the project in the Sibley area will start just south of the airport going north along the existing highway 60 corridor. It will then veer east around Sibley, turning north near county road A-30. It will continue north, crossing county road A-22, Iowa Highway nine, and then proceed to the Minnesota border. Schultz says the roadway will be four-lanes with access control…meaning there will only be accesses in the Sibley area at the interchanges.

Schultz says those attending the April 8th hearing will be able to review plans for the project, except for the last 1.8 miles south of the Minnesota border. He says they’re waiting for the Minnesota Department of Transportation to finalize plans for a bypass of Bigelow before they design the final segment of the Iowa project.

Meanwhile, construction continues on Highway 60 to the south. Work has been going on in the Alton area for about a year now.

The hearing on the Sibley Highway 60 bypass will be held Tuesday, April 8th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the commons area of the Sibley-Ocheyedan Middle School in Sibley.
