“Fire-Related Injuries” Listed As Cause Of Death Of Storm Lake Man

November 23, 2014

(Storm Lake)– An autopsy lists fire-related injuries as the cause of death of a Storm Lake man who was found dead following a grass fire earlier this week near Linn Grove.

Buena Vista County Sheriff Chuck Eddy says the victim, 77-year-old Ellis Francis, was doing some spring clean up at a farm and was burning yard waste when the fire got out of control. Eddy says Francis may have become incapacitated while trying to control or extinguish the blaze.

Firefighters found Ellis’ body late Tuesday afternoon after they extinguished the fire. They were called to the scene around 3:40 p.m. where they found a large area of grass and a shed on fire.
