(Lake Park)– Ground was broken this (Fri.) afternoon on the new Harris-Lake Park Middle School-High School building on the east side of county road M-27 on the south side of Lake Park.
The project is one phase of a larger project that will also consist of a community center, shared community-school library and athletic fields.
State Representative Roy Chambers told a large gathering the project is proof that small schools and communities in Iowa are still alive and well.
The project is made possible in part through a grant awarded through the Vision Iowa program. State Representative Greg Stevens of Milford says Lake Park is a shining example as to what Vision Iowa is all about. He says Michael Gartner, Chairman of the Vision Iowa board, uses the Lake Park project as a model in other parts of the state.
Also addressing the crowd was Jenny Beck, Harris-Lake Park High School student body President. She thanked the community for making the dream become a reality.
Actual groundwork on the 7.2 million dollar project is to get underway in the next week or so. The project is slated for completion in a little more than a year from now.
