Milford Officials Concerned Over Clinic’s Future

November 23, 2014

(Milford)– Milford officials are becoming increasingly concerned over the future of a clinic on the city’s north side that’s operated by Spencer Municipal Hospital through an arrangement with Avera/McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls.

Officials are worried the lease on the facility may not be renewed when it expires two years from now. The city council earlier this week was requested to look into the possibility of buying the clinic on the premise the city would then hold the lease, and could start up a medical foundation that would help woo atleast one full-time physician to the community.

The council took no action on that issue, but they did direct City Administrator Brian Reed to write a letter to the Spencer hospital and Lakes Regional Healthcare to see if they would be interested in a future leasing arrangement. It was stated there could be a possibility of both hospitals leasing out certain parts of the building.

It was the opinion of some that Milford is big enough to support atleast two full-time physicians.
