Southern Minnesota Mishap Claims Ringsted Man

(Madelia, Mn.)– A Ringsted man was killed Monday when a motorcycle he was driving collided with a Ford Explorer.

The Minnesota State Patrol identifies the victim as 78-year-old Franklin Skovgaard of Ringsted.

Authorities say Skovgaard was driving a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound in the eastbound lane of Highway 60 when he collided with an eastbound Ford Explorer driven by 44-year-old Berta Navarette of St. James. Navarete was taken to the Madelia hospital with unknown injuries. A passenger in the vehicle Navarete was driving, 41-year-old Maria Martinez of St. James, was taken to the Madelia hospital where she was treated and released. A third passenger in the vehicle Navarete was driving, two-month-old Jesus Villegas of St. James, wasn’t injured.

The mishap took place around 5:41 p.m. Monday on Highway 60 at the junction with Highway 15 about five miles south of Madelia, Minnesota.
