Local Agencies Participate In Special Enforcement Program

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Several local law enforcement agencies are participating in a stepped up effort this week to make the roads safer.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and Spirit Lake Police Department are among the agencies participating in the STEP, or Special Traffic Enforcement Program.

Rex Ondler, First Deputy with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, says they’re looking for seatbelt violators, those who fail to properly restrain children, speeders, impaired drivers and other types of violations.

Ondler says the nationwide program is funded by federal highway safety funds.

The increased enforcement started Sunday (5/18) and continues through June 2nd.
