(Spirit Lake)– A fire early this (Sun.) morning resulted in the evacuation of Lakes Apartments in downtown Spirit Lake.
Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson says crews were called to the scene shortly before 3:00 a.m. He says firefighters determined the smoke was coming from one apartment in particular. Upon entering it he says they found some clothing and other materials on fire and smoking heavily. He says they removed the items and extinguished what was left of the fire.
Jorgenson says there was some smoke damage, with the majority of it confined to the one apartment. The building’s occupants were allowed to return after it was ventilated.
The cause of the fire isn’t certain.
An ambulance was called to the scene as a precaution, but Jorgenson says there were no injuries.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department was on the scene about an hour.
