(Spirit Lake)– Secondary testing at Marble Beach on Big Spirit Lake show levels of E-Coli contamination have dropped to an acceptable level.
D-N-R officials announced Monday the beach had tested at 400 early last week–higher than the one-time standard of 235 for E-coli, which determines whether an advisory should be issued. Authorities say results of secondary tests conducted late last week showed the level had dropped to 20.
Mary Skopec of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Water Quality Monitoring Division says e-coli levels typically spike after heavy rains, then quickly return to normal.
