(Emmetsburg)– Doctor Dave Nixon, Executive Dean of the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College, has resigned to become President of Monroe Community College in Monroe, Michigan.
Nixon says he feels fortunate to be selected. He was one of 54 people to apply for the job.
Doctor Nixon’s accomplishments at Iowa Lakes Community were numerous. The Broadcast Media Specialist Program he designed and introduced at the Estherville Campus in 1991 are chief among them.
He was promoted to Director of Institutional Advancement in 1994 and led a successful fund drive to construct the 4.3 million dollar Smith Wellness Center/Library Complex at the Emmetsburg campus. Nixon was named Executive Dean of the Emmetsburg campus two years later.
Dr. Nixon is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Visionary Award from the state’s Vision 2020 project; the Jack Shelly Award for outstanding contributions to bradcast journalism; and received the outstanding alumni award at the University of South Dakota’s Department of Mass Communication.
Dr. Nixon will continue at Iowa Lakes through July 18th. A farewell reception will be held in his honor on Friday, July 11th from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the student center at the Emmetsburg campus. Everyone is invited.
