(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park city council has scrapped the lone bid received on a project to build a new decorative retaining wall adjacent to the Okoboji Cemetary on Highway 71 and to relocate and rebuild the city’s war memorial.
Only one bid was received on the combined project at a bidletting last month. It was 120-thousand dollars over the engineer’s estimate.
Meeting in special session last week, the council voted to reject the bid and to schedule a new bidletting for August 13th.
Original plans called for the projects to be completed yet this construction season. City Administrator Ron Walker says the tight timeframe may have been a key factor in the fact only one bid was received and that it came in as high as it did. Walker says the project will be pushed back to the upcoming construction season in hopes of attacting more bidders and a more attractive price.
