Name Of Old Highway 327 Changed Again

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Some residents living along the east side of Big Spirit Lake will have their addresses changed AGAIN.

It stems from the county inheriting what used to Highway 327 from the state. The road was transferred to the county July 1st.

The Dickinson county board of supervisors a couple of weeks ago voted to number the road as 250th Avenue. But Tuesday Sheriff Greg Baloun, who’s also serving as the county’s 911 Director on an interim basis, informed the supervisors that wasn’t uniform with the emergency addressing system. He recommended it be re-named to 253rd Avenue instead to fit in with the 911 grid.

The supervisors unanimously approved Baloun’s recommendation. Two residents who live in the affected area requested the county assign the road a name instead of a number. But Baloun says that would really throw off the 911 system.

The change will also affect that area north of where Highway 327 leaves off…in the Jones Pasture area.

Even though the street number will change, Baloun says house numbers will stay the same.
