(Arnolds Park)– No injuries were reported this (Fri.) morning in a boat fire on Lake Minnewashta in Arnolds Park.
Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Steve Dulin says crews were called to the Minnewashta Campground area shortly after 10:00 a.m. Upon arrival, Dulin says the boat had floated a little way from shore and was completely engulfed. Dulin says the owner of the boat had just put about 40 gallons on fuel into it. He says there was a leak in the tank or fuel line that filled the bilge with gas. Dulin says the fuel ignited when the driver of the boat turned on the ignition. The driver and two passengers jumped out of the boat onto a nearby dock. Noone was injured, but the boat was destroyed.
Dulin says they were able to stop the burning boat from drifting to other boats in the area as they extinguished the blaze.
The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Department was on the scene about an hour.
