Drug Charges Filed Against Nebraska Residents In SL Traffic Stop

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Numerous charges have been filed against two people from Nebraska as the result of a traffic stop Thursday evening in Spirit Lake.

Authorities say 23-year-old Mattew Roy Hungate of Lincoln, Nebraska was pulled over shortly before 9:00 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 71 and 30th Street.

A routine check found Hungate did not have a valid driver’s license and that he was wanted on a felony warrant out of Lancaster, Nebraska.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in authorities recovering substances believed to be methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana along with numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities say the items were next to an eight-year-old child who was also in the vehicle. That led to the arrest of a female passenger, 27-year-old Alysia Hungate…the child’s aunt. She was charged with child endangerment. Following her arrest, authorities found Alysia Hungate to be in possession of a substance believed to be cocaine.

Officers also recovered over 30-thousand dollars in U-S currency from the vehicle.

The child was released to a relative.

Matthew Hungate was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to deliver; possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver; possession of marijuana with intent to deliver; two counts of a drug tax stamp violation; conspiracy to distribute controlled substances; prohibited acts; child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In addition to child endangerment, Alysia Hungate was also charged with possession of cocaine with intent to deliver; conspiracy to distribute controlled substances prohibited acts; child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both are being held in the Dickinson county jail pending an appearance before a judge.

Authorities say the case remains under investigation.
