Osceola Co. Accident Injures Four

November 23, 2014

(Ocheyedan)– Four people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon at the intersection of Highways nine and 59 in Osceola county.

Authorities say Gerald Carnahan of Primghar was traveling on Highway 59 and had stopped for a stop sign at the Highway nine intersection. Deputies say Carnahan then proceeded north on Highway 59 when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Doris Patten of Columbia, South Dakota who was eastbound on Highway nine.

The impact of the crash sent the vehicle Carnahan was driving into a soybean field on the northeast side of the intersection.

Carnahan was taken by ambulance to the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley and was later airlifted to McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Patten and two passengers in the vehicle she was driving, Doris Martinez and Eileen Gasser…both of Columbia, South Dakota…were taken to the Osceola Community Hospital where they were treated and released.

Carnahan was charged with failure to yield upon entering a through highway.

Eight thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 1998 Chevrolet driven by Patten; a 1978 Chevrolet driven by Carnahan sustained an estimated 1,500-dollars in damage.

The crash took place shortly before 3:00 p.m. Friday.
