(Arnolds Park)– Results are in from today’s (Sun.) election to fill six expiring terms on the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum Board of Directors.
Elected to three-year terms on the board were Orville Berg, Mike Hagen, Mike McDonough, Walt Mendenhall, Bob Schneider and Mike Zenor.
Seats held by Joe Vanderlaan, Becky Batcheler, Buzz Davis, Mike Paxton, Brett Thacker and Dick Thorton were up for election. Most of them were seeking another term.
A total of 269 votes were cast in today’s (Sun.) election, held as part of the Maritime Museum’s annual meeting in Arnolds Park. More than 300 people were in attendance.
The meeting, like many others the board has held recently, didn’t come without controversy. Sparks flew between two board members during an open forum at today’s (Sun.) session. Paul Hedberg spoke of communication problems between board members, and a lack of timely reports, especially when it comes to financial reports. Treasurer Brett Thacker refuted the claim, saying it wasn’t his fault not all board members are permanent residents of the area, and he said the statements are being distributed at monthly board meetings.
