One Person Files For Two Open Seats On SL School Board

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Only one person has filed for two open seats on the Spirit Lake School Board.

Incumbents Craig Newell and Mike Donohue aren’t seeking re-election. Scott Wicks is the only person that filed.

In the Harris-Lake Park district, Mike Bosma, a newcomer, is running unopposed for the District Two seat currently held by Tom Ransom, who isn’t seeking re-election.

Mike Chosen is running unopposed for re-election to his seat on the Okoboji School Board.

And in Terril, incumbents Jodi Olseon and Kelvin Sawyer are running unopposed for re-election.

Jack Tatman, an incumbent, is running unopposed for re-election to his district three seat on the Board of Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College.

School board elections will be held September 9th.

Due to an expected low turnout, Dickinson County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections, Nancy Reiman, says polls will be open shorter hours. Instead of 7:00 a.m., polling sites won’t be opening until Noon that day. They’ll be open until 8:00 p.m. Reiman says the poll hours could revert back to the earlier time if a petition signed by atleast 50 eligible electors of the school district is filed atleast 25 days before the election.

Absentee ballots will be available from the Auditor’s Office until August 20th.
