9 & 71 Wreck Ties Up Noon Hour Traffic

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– There were no serious injuries, but Spirit Lake police say there was a considerable amount of property damage in a two-vehicle wreck that took place over the noon hour today (Tues.) at the intersection of Highways nine and 71 and Zenith Avenue.

Authorities say 62-year-old Martha Wells of Emmetsburg had pulled out from a stop sign to go west on the highway when she pulled into the path of a vehicle driven by 64-year-old Wayne Turner of Grand Island, Florida.

The Spirit Lake First Responders were called to the scene, but police say no one was taken to the hospital.

A 2000 Lincoln driven by Wells was described as a total loss. Four thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2002 Dodge Caravan driven by Turner.

Wells was cited for failure to yield while making a left-turn.

The crash took place shortly after noon.
