Bones Discovered At Construction Site Southwest Of Milford

November 23, 2014

(Milford)– What’s believed to be human remains have been uncovered at a construction site southwest of Milford.

Dickinson County Sheriff Greg Baloun says his office received a report Tuesday from a construction crew that was digging a basement for a new home regarding some bones they had uncovered. The site is located in section 15 of Okoboji Township…near Horseshoe Bend.

Baloun says upon investigating deputies uncovered about two dozen bones, including a skull. He says the remains were buried about three feet under the ground and appeared to have been there for a very long time.

Baloun says the bones are being sent to the Iowa State Medical Examiner for further analysis.

At this time, Baloun believes foul play was NOT involved. He says they’re basing that on the fact the bones appeared to have been buried for an extremely long time and that no other items such as remains of clothing, zippers, buttons and so on could be found.

Baloun says the company doing the work has been allowed to continue since there appears to be only the one burial site and that it was very isolated.
