Accident East Of Spencer Claims Everly Man

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– A one-vehicle accident east of Spencer Thursday claimed the life of an Everly man.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 31-year-old Jason Nelson of Everly was killed when he lost control of a cement truck he was driving on Highway 18 about a mile and-a-half east of Spencer at the Little Sioux River bridge.

Authorities believe Nelson lost control of the truck just before crossing the bridge due to a blown tire. The truck overturned on the roadway, slid along the bridge and overturned in the north ditch, throwing Nelson. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident resulted in the highway being closed to traffic for about nine hours Thursday.

The mishap remains under investigation.

The truck Nelson was driving is owned by Great Lakes Concrete of Spirit Lake.
