(Estherville)– The Operations Manager of a local electric cooperative says there’s a lesson to be learned from last Thursday’s blackout in the northeast and portions of the midwest.
Rick Olesen of Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative in Estherville says the industry has been “stagnant” on the construction end. He says there simply aren’t enough transmission facilities (lines) to keep up with the growing demand. And Olesen says that’s putting some restrictions on the system.
Olesen adds deregulation hasn’t helped the matter.
