Local Communities Selected For Grant-Funded Leadership Program

November 23, 2014

(Undated)– Several area communities have been selected for a program to help reverse population and economic declines.

The Iowa State University Extension Service and organizations in four other states will share nearly two million dollars from the Northwest Area Foundation of St. Paul, Minnesota to run a Leadership Development Program.

Iowa State University Extension will introduce the program in three towns in our area that have less than five thousand residents. They are Emmetsburg, Hartley and Jackson, Minnesota.

Extension officials say the program is designed to build on the strengths of the towns.

The Northwest Area Foundation helps communities reduce poverty in states that were served by the Great Northern Railroad. They include Iowa, Minnesota, the Dakotas, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
