D-N-R: Skunk Sitings This Time Of Year Are Typical

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Recent sitings of skunks during daylight areas in residential areas has been causing concern among some lakes area residents.

But Gary Owen of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says it’s nothing to be overly concerned about. He says skunks and other animals are typically more active this time of year as they get ready for winter.

Owen says the best advice if you see a skunk or other animal is to leave it alone. He says you should contact authorities if it’s behaving oddly…a possible indication of rabies.
