(Ames)– Iowa Department of Transportation commissioners Tuesday approved plans to build a nine mile bypass of Sibley. It will be included in the four-lane expansion of Highway 60 between LeMars and the Minnesota stateline.
The road will bypass Sibley to the south and east, and will include three interchanges costing three million dollars each.
Total cost of the project is 38 million dollars.
Completion of the bypass is slated for late 2006.
The project was supported by city and county officials along with a group promoting the expansion of Highway 60.
Commissioners voted seven-to-nothing in favor of the project.
