(Undated)– Look for some crowded ballots in this fall’s city elections in some Dickinson county municipalities.
That’s the case especially in Spirit Lake, where 11 people have filed for three open seats on the city council. Incumbents Bob Cosens, Pat McNorton and Terry Yarns are being challenged by Kevin Bice, John Chappas, Susan Clark, Jerry Harbst, William Huse, Art Mulder, William Stephenson and Jeff Thee. Incumbent Mayor Eric Nielsen is being challenged by Darwin Pike.
In Arnolds Park, incumbents Jason Christensen, Jim Jensen and Susan Munsen were the only ones to file for the three open city council seats and incumbent Mike Mitchell is unopposed as Mayor. Two people are running to fill a vacancy on the council created by the recent resignation of Garnette Anderson. They are William “Dub” Davis and Mitch Watters.
Three people have filed for two open seats on the Milford city council. They are Detleff Ball, an incumbent, and Tom Cooper and Rick Kilts. Virg Wahlman is unopposed as Mayor and Lyn Johnson was the only person to file for an open seat on the Park Board.
In Orleans, Incumbent Mayor Carlton Mitchell is being challenged by Barbara Fox. Four people are running for two open seats on the city council. They are Char Cooklin, Viola Hagedorn, Jim Jackson and Walt Mier, an incumbent.
Four people have filed for three open seats on the West Okoboji City Council. They are James Hietbrink, Marilyn Higgins and two incumbents: Marcia Petersen and Larry Traughber. Howard Titterington is unopposed as Mayor.
Races in Lake Park, Okoboji, Superior, Terril and Wahpeton are unopposed.
The filing period closed September 18th.
