(Wallingford)– An electrical malfunction in a freezer has been ruled the cause of a fire that destroyed a storage building at the Dave Peton residence southwest of Wallingford last Friday. The determination was made after a visit to the scene by the State Fire Marshall.
Peton discovered the blaze as he was visiting with a neighbor and noticed smoke coming from the building.
The blaze started on the building’s northwest side and quickly spread. It was engulfed when firefighters arrived a short time later.
The building and its contents, including hunting and fishing equipment, farm tools and welding equipment, were destroyed. The total loss was put at more than 25-thousand dollars.
No injuries were reported in the blaze.
