Wreck Shuts Down Clay County Road

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A Clay county road was shut down awhile Tuesday as the result of a one-vehicle crash.

The Sheriff’s Office says the mishap took place around 5:40 a.m. a mile north of Spencer on County Road M-44.

71-year-old Gerrit Bosman of Boyden was traveling south on M-44 when he fell asleep at the wheel. His vehicle, a 1997 Dodge Caravan, left the road, entered the ditch and hit a utility pole, breaking it off.

Portions of the road were closed to traffic for about five hours Tuesday morning due to the broken pole and downed wires.

Bosman sustained cuts to his face and legs in the accident.

Authorities say charges are pending.
