Applications Being Taken To Fill District 3A Judge Vacancy

(Sioux City)– Applications are being taken to fill a District Judgeship being left vacant with the retirement of District Judge Frank Nelson.

The Iowa Supreme Court has adopted a questionnaire to be completed by anyone wishing to apply. Copies of the questionnaire can be obtained from the District Court Administrator or any Clerk of Court in Judicial District 3A.

The completed questionnaire is to be filed with Judge Frank B. Nelson, P.O. Box 1492, Spencer, Iowa…51301 by 4:30 p.m. October 24th. A copy is to be sent to Lisa McNeal, Court Administrator, Woodbury County Courthouse…Room 210; 620 Douglas Street in Sioux City. The zip code is 51101.

Each applicant will have the opportunity to appear before the entire Judicial Nominating Commission for a personal interview October 30th at the Clay County Courthouse in Spencer.

The commission will submit the names of two finalists to Governor Vilsack, who will make the appointment.

Applicants must be members of the bar of Iowa, residents of the third Judicial District and of such age they will be able to serve an initial and one regular term of office before reaching the age of 72.

Judicial District 3A consists of Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, Lyon, O’Brien and Palo Alto counties.
