(Spirit Lake)– A cattle feedlot east of Superior was once again a topic of discussion at Tuesday’s Dickinson County Board of Supervisors meeting.
Mark Garrelts, who owns the lot, was at the meeting, but a spokesman, Doug Hess, did the talking for him. Hess told the supervisors they’ve cleaned out a ditch along a county road that had partially filled with manure. Hess added they’ve worked on a drainage problem that should prevent manure from washing back into the ditch in the future.
Hess said any assertion Garrelts plugged a drainage tile in that area is false. County officials say they visited the site recently and removed an obstruction, which they say was causing some of the problem.
Hess told the supervisors he and Garrelts are working on plans to redesign the feedlot to prevent future problems. He agreed to supervisor Chairman David Gottsche’s request to present those plans to the board before actually making any changes.
