E’Burg Man Charged With Identity Theft

(Emmetsburg)– An Emmetsburg man has been arrested for allegedly stealing the identity of another person and using it to obtain thousands of dollars.

A joint investigation by the Emmetsburg Police Department and the Palo Alto County Attorney’s Office has led to the arrest of 43-year-old Ron Peterson of Emmetsburg.

Peterson is charged with second degree theft, a class “D” felony; identity theft, a class “D” felony; and a count of tampering with a witness, an aggravated misdemeanor.

The charges stem from an incident in which Peterson is accused of using the name and personal information of another person to obtain financial gain of more than one thousand dollars but less than 10-thousand dollars.

Peterson faces up to 12 years behind bars and a fine of up to 20-thousand dollars.
