SL Council Awards East Gateway Bid

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake City Council Tuesday awarded a bid on a project to beautify the east entryway into the city along Highways nine and 71.

The low bid of 386,401-dollars was submitted by Cedar Valley Corporation of Waterloo. It came in at 82 percent of the engineer’s estimate. Public Works Director Todd Dolphin says the company will have until this coming Memorial Day to complete the project.

In other business, the council approved the participation of the Public Works Department in a new program that helps locate people suffering from disorders that causes them to wander. The Police Department is already involved in the effort, known as “Project Lifesaver”. Public Works Director Todd Dolphin says the council’s approval Tuesday allows his department to assist with manpower and equipment when needed.

The council also set December 16th as the date for a public hearing on a proposal to establish an Urban Revitalization plan for the city’s east side. City Administrator Pete Hegeman says if approved, the program would provide tax incentives for homeowners and businessowners in that area to make improvements.
