(Milford)– Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say a bypass of some five thousand gallons of wastewater into Mill Creek earlier this month near Milford resulted in no fish kill and caused no danger to drinking water supplies.
Neil Cook of the D-N-R’s regional environmental office in Spencer says the bypass on October 6th was the result of a power outage at a lift station. Cook says workers with the Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary Sewer District got a generator hooked up and running within a half-hour of the power going out, greatly limiting the amount of sewage that went into the creek.
Mill Creek is a tributary of the Little Sioux River.
Officials are just now releasing information about the incident.
