(Spirit Lake)– A power outage late Saturday night left portions of Spirit Lake and areas west of town in the dark for about an hour.
The outage started shortly after 10:30 and involved customers of both Alliant Energy and Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative.
Rick Oleson, Operations Manager for I-L-E-C, tells KUOO news the problems started when a motorized switch at an Alliant Energy substation near Montgomery caught fire. Oleson says that caused a breaker to shut down a transmission line that feeds the I-L-E-C Bosworth Substation at the corner of 15th Street and Highways nine and 71 in Spirit Lake.
Oleson says crews are making permanent repairs to the burned out switch today (Monday).
Officials with Alliant Energy weren’t immediately available for comment.
