(Okoboji)– An Okoboji motel was damaged by fire this (Monday) morning.
Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Steve Dulin says firefighters were called to the Country Club Motel around 10:30 a.m.
Dulin says smoke could be seen coming from both ends of the building upon arriving.
The building was evacuated.
Dulin says the cause was traced to a brush and leaf fire that got out of control and spread to the building, burning a hole through a wall into a guest room. From there Dulin says the fire burned through the floor and into a crawl space. He says firefighters were able to quickly knock it down, and damage was contained to the one room.
Dulin says a motel worker was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and was taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare as a precautionary measure.
Arnolds Park/Okoboji firefighters were on the scene about an hour and-a-half.
Dulin says this latest blaze may add fuel to the fire for a burning ban in Dickinson county. Such a ban is already in effect in Clay county due to the drought.
