(Spencer)– Construction on the Regional Events Center at the Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer is nearly complete, but the project needs more money.
Events Center Committee members Kris Van Berkum and Bill Orrison told the Spencer City Council Finance and Personnel Committee Tuesday the project is about 400-thousand dollars short. They’re requesting 200-thousand from the city, 200-thousand from Spencer Municipal Utilities and 50-thousand dollars from the Fair Board. Orrison and Van Berkum says 70 to 80-thousand dollars would go toward sound equipment.
Van Berkum and Orrison received a verbal commitment from the city council committee for the 200-thousand dollar request. The money is to come from the city’s Economic Development Fund. The city council is expected to act on the matter next month.
