(Emmetsburg)– An Emmetsburg woman remains hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision Saturday in Emmetsburg.
Emmetsburg police say Helen Buffum was southbound on King Street when she failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection with Main Street. She pulled into the path of a westbound Cenex anhydrous semi tractor-trailer driven by Morris Soleta of Heron Lake, Minnesota.
The “Jaws of Life” had to be used to extricate Buffum from her vehicle. She was taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital and was transferred to Spencer Hospital where she’s listed in fair condition.
No injuries were reported to Soleta.
About five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the vehicle Buffum was driving; damage to the semi was put at roughly 10-thousand dollars.
Buffum was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign.
Emmetsburg police were assisted by Palo Alto County Emergency Management and the Iowa State Patrol.
