A train derailment has closed a portion of a Clay county road until further notice.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says seven cars of an I C & E train hauling grain left the tracks around 7:00 this (Monday) morning near a crossing on Clay County Road B-24 near Dickens. Two of the cars tipped on their sides.
No injuries were reported, but the road has been closed from 260th Avenue to county road M-50 while crews clean up the spilled soybean meal.
The westbound train was headed to Spencer from Mason City.
The Iowa, Chicago and Eastern Railroad is investigating the derailment, along with the Iowa State Patrol and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
