(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday voted unanimously to authorize attorney Earl Maahs to write up a 28E agreement that would pave the way for a feasibility study into a municipal telecommunications and cable t.v. utility.
Each of the five communities that passed the referendum on the municipal utility question in the November 4th election will decide whether or not they want to authorize a 28E agreement being written as well. Once the agreement is written, it will come back to those cities for final review and approval.
Pat McNorton, Spirit Lake’s representative on the “Opportunity is Calling Committee” says that group would oversee the selection of a firm to do the study, which would also consist of a survey of residents in the five towns to see who would be willing to subscribe to a municipal system.
McNorton couldn’t give a firm timeframe as to when all that might take place.
