(Spencer)– Law enforcement agencies in Clay and Dickinson counties have received hundreds of free gun locks through a program called “Project ChildSafe”.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office will have 900 locks and the Spencer Police Department will have 300 to distribute to the public.
In Dickinson county, the D-N-R, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and the Milford and Spirit Lake Police Departments will provide about 2,800 free firearm safety kits.
The U-S Department of Justice is providing nearly 20 million free gun locks and firearm safety material in all 50 states.
The goal of “Project ChildSafe” is to help make homes with firearms safer by raising awareness about responsible firearm ownership and storage.
Anyone wanting a free gun lock should stop by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office or the Spencer Police Department during regular office hours. In Dickinson county the locks are available during regular business hours at the Sheriff’s Office and the Milford and Spirit Lake Police Departments.
“Project ChildSafe” is a free program open to all law enforcement. It’s funded through a 50 million dollar grant from the U-S Department of Justice.
