Spirit Lake Man Found Shot In Rural Jackson County

(Lakefield, Mn.)– Authorities in Jackson county, Minnesota are investigating a shooting.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says it was called shortly before 10:30 this (Fri.) morning to a residence in Hunter Township south of Lakefield in response to an emergency call of a shooting. Authorities say the shooting took place around 10:00 p.m. Thursday. Upon arriving this (Fri.) morning, deputies found a 34-year-old male who had been shot. The man, who’s from Spirit Lake, was declared dead at the scene.

His name wasn’t being released late this (Fri.) afternoon.

Jackson County Attorney Robert O’Connor announced late this (Fri.) afternoon an arrest has been made in connection with the case. O’Connor says 39-year-old Suzanne McNulty of rural Lakefield has been arrested on probable cause of murder. McNulty is being held at the Jackson County Law Enforcement Center pending formal charges. She’s scheduled to appear in court Monday (Nov. 17th).

O’Connor says the incident is quote “a sad example of the combination of anger, alcohol and guns.”

O’Connor says this is the first murder case in Jackson county since 1997.

The case remains under investigation by O’Connor’s office, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
