(Spencer)– Major damage was reported to a Spencer home after fire broke out early Saturday morning.
Spencer fire crews were called to 511 East Second Street around 5:00 a.m. Upon arriving, firefighters found smoke coming from the rear of the home. The blaze was extinguished in about 20 minutes. Major damage was reported to the kitchen with heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the structure.
Two people living in the home escaped. One was taken to the Spencer Hospital and was treated for possible smoke inhalation and released.
The cause of the fire was improperly discarded smoking materials.
The home is owned by Keith DeYager.
A total of 26 Spencer firefighters assisted at the scene with the help of two fire engines and three support vehicles. They were on the scene about two and-a-half hours Saturday.
