(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday heard a request from representatives of East Okoboji Beach to extend a Tax Increment Finance District. It was originally put in place to extend sanitary sewer service to the development on the east side of East Lake Okoboji. That project has since been completed and is nearly paid for.
Tuesday East Okoboji Beach representatives said they’d like some revisions made to the TIF District to allow a project to install storm sewers and hard surface streets. Earl Maahs, a Spirit Lake attorney representing East Okoboji Beach, told the supervisors the original TIF District was worded in such a way so that it could be expanded to cover other projects over an additional period of time.
The supervisors took no action on the request. They directed Maahs and East Okoboji Beach representatives to meet with the County Engineer to get an estimate on costs so they can determine how much longer the TIF District would need to be extended. They’ll report back later.
