Budget Cuts Force Sw Mn College To Close Its Doors For 1 Week

November 22, 2014

(Jackson, Mn.)– A southwest Minnesota technical college will be shutting down all five of its campuses for a week next month as the result of budget cuts.

Minnesota West Community and Technical College, which has campuses in Jackson and Worthington, will be closed to the public December 21st through the 28th. The college will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Monday, December 29th.

Minnesota West President Ron Wood says the closure is the result of a nine percent reduction in the college’s budget as the result of Minnesota’s budget crisis. Wood says it translates into a loss of 1.4 million dollars for Minnesota West.

The closure will take place during the school’s traditional holiday break, but even then Wood says they’re typically busy with current and transfer students getting ready for the spring semester that starts January 14th.
