(Spirit Lake)– Options for getting sanitary sewer extended to the Leisure Beach area on the north side of Little Spirit Lake may be about to run out.
The Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary Sewer District has been negotiating for years to purchase a parcel of property needed for a lift station. But the Sanitary District says the negotiations have gone nowhere.
A majority of residents in that area, currently served by septic tanks that are starting to fail, have been requesting sanitary sewer for years.
Meeting Tuesday with the county board of supervisors, Al Klein, President of the Sanitary Sewer District Board of Trustees, said they may be willing to start up negotiations again, but he says if they’re unsuccessful, the only other option would be condemnation…something Klein says the district would rather not get involved in.
Glen Petersen, Superintendent of the Sanitary District, says their board of trustees will discuss the situation some more at their meeting January 13th.
